Implementation details
Because this bypasses the subscription's normal recurring billing logic, it's the mechanism used for ad-hoc charges -- a setup fee, a one-time service, a manual adjustment -- that shouldn't wait for or repeat with the next renewal cycle.
Operational considerations
The invoice created this way still goes through Chargebee's normal payment collection flow, so it can be auto-charged to the customer's stored payment method or left for manual collection depending on how the request and account are configured.
