Delete a Dependency

Last updated

What this operation supports in ClickUp

Removes a dependency relationship between two tasks, identified by the dependency's linking IDs, without deleting either task itself.

Implementation details

This only removes the "waiting on"/"blocking" link between the two tasks -- both tasks continue to exist independently with their own status, assignees, and other data untouched.

Operational considerations

Because dependencies affect how blocked work is visualized (e.g., in Gantt-style views), removing a dependency that's no longer accurate keeps that visualization honest, rather than leaving a stale blocking relationship that no longer reflects the actual workflow.

Use cases

Reconfigure project plans when prerequisites change.

  • Unlock dependent tasks after delays
  • Adjust schedules in response to external events
  • Restructure sequencing for improved throughput
  • Audit dependency changes for governance
