Google Docs includes a template gallery (File > New > From template gallery) with Google's built-in templates for resumes, reports, and similar documents. Google Workspace administrators can also publish custom branded templates to their organization's own template gallery so employees start from an approved layout.
Starting from a Template
- Personal templates are available to any Google account; organization-wide custom templates require a Workspace admin to publish them first
- Opening a template creates a new, independent copy — edits to that copy never change the original template
- Permissions on the new document follow normal Docs sharing rules and are not inherited from the template itself
Workflow fit: have an admin publish a small set of approved templates (proposal, status report, meeting notes) to the organization gallery so new documents start consistent, rather than employees copying and reformatting old files by hand.
