Create a New User

What this operation supports in Mattermost

Creates a new user account on the server, with at minimum a username, email, and password.

Implementation details

This creates the account itself but doesn't add the user to any team -- team membership is granted as a separate step.

Operational considerations

Depending on server configuration, a newly created account may still need email verification before it can fully log in.

Automate onboarding from HR systems or LMS platforms.

1. Auto-create user accounts when a contractor is invited via directory sync.
2. Sync external identity providers with Mattermost profiles.
3. Provision users for new projects with default team memberships.
4. Enforce password or MFA enrollment at creation.
