Run/Add a Time Entry

Last updated

What this operation supports in Clockify

Creates a time entry for a user, either with an explicit start and end time already set, or started with no end time to function as a running timer.

Implementation details

Starting a new running timer for a user who already has one running stops the previous entry first, since Clockify only allows one active timer per user at a time.

Operational considerations

A time entry created without a project reference is still valid and gets tracked, but it won't roll up into project-based reporting the same way a properly tagged entry would, which can skew totals if it's overlooked during an invoicing or payroll cycle.

Use cases

Auto-start a timer when a user begins a task, log time for a scheduled job, or create time entries from a form submission in Clockify.
