Get an Invoice

Last updated

What this operation supports in QuickBooks

Retrieves a single invoice by its ID, returning the full invoice object -- customer reference, line items, due date, total amount, and current balance owed.

Implementation details

The response includes a SyncToken value alongside the invoice data; this token reflects the invoice's current version and must be passed back unchanged on any future update to that same invoice.

Operational considerations

Because the balance reflects payments already applied, fetching an invoice is the reliable way to check whether it's been fully paid, partially paid, or still outstanding, rather than assuming its status from when it was first created.

Use cases

Automate email delivery of invoices after creation.

  1. Validate invoice totals against payments received.
  2. Sync invoice data to accounting weeks.
  3. Notify customers of due dates automatically.
  4. Archive paid invoices for records.
