Agentforce for Service: AI agents for customer support

Short answer

Agentforce for Service is Salesforce's conversational AI agent for customer support. It answers customers 24/7 across self-service portals, messaging and voice, uses your knowledge and Service Cloud records to resolve cases, and escalates to a human rep when it should.

What can Agentforce for Service handle?

Routine questions and tasks: answering from knowledge, deflecting cases, looking up and updating customer records, and following your procedures for common requests.

Salesforce contrasts it with traditional chatbots that rely on rigid dialogs: the agent uses generative AI to handle tasks, make decisions and give natural responses aligned with your brand.

Which service agents does Salesforce offer?

Trailhead lists three on the service side: Service Agent, Help Agent and Service Planner.

AgentWhat it does (per Salesforce)
Service AgentCustomizable agent that resolves customer cases autonomously across channels, 24/7
Help Agent24/7 support across help portals, web chat and voice, with rapid deployment and automatic setup
Service PlannerHelps your reps resolve cases faster with case summaries and step-by-step resolution guidance

Which channels does it work on?

Salesforce lists SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, web and self-service portals, and voice for inbound calls.

It can also interpret images and audio as well as text. Phone support is covered in our Agentforce Voice guide.

What happens when the agent cannot help?

It escalates to a service rep. Because Service Cloud is native to the Salesforce Platform, the agent can update the case and hand off with the context already in place.

What makes a service agent give good answers?

Good knowledge content and clean case data. The agent can only be as accurate as the articles, files and records it is grounded in.

See how to prepare your Salesforce data and Agentforce vs Intercom Fin if you are weighing options.

  • Publish and tidy the knowledge articles customers actually need.
  • Decide which subagents the agent owns and which it must hand off.
  • Test with real questions in Testing Center before customers see it.
