Salesforce Agentforce consultant for small and mid-size businesses
Agentforce is Salesforce's platform for AI agents that answer questions and take actions inside your Salesforce org, such as resolving support cases, following up with leads or updating records. What is Salesforce Agentforce?
Agentforce is Salesforce's platform for building AI agents that answer questions and take actions using your Salesforce data, inside the guardrails you set. Salesforce describes it as a proactive, autonomous AI application that answers questions, takes actions and improves productivity, and says agents need three things to get work done: data, reasoning and actions.
Unlike a traditional chatbot that follows a fixed conversation tree, an agent reasons about the request, plans the steps and uses the tools it has been given, such as a flow that updates an order or a search over your knowledge articles. The pieces below are described the way Salesforce's own documentation describes them. We link to the sources at the bottom of the page.
Salesforce calls it the brain behind Agentforce: it breaks a request into smaller tasks, gathers the relevant data, proposes a plan and evaluates each step.
Subagents (earlier Salesforce pages call them topics) define the jobs an agent will and will not do; actions are built from your flows, prompt templates, Apex and APIs.
Data 360 (formerly Data Cloud) unifies structured and unstructured data for retrieval; data libraries ground agents in knowledge articles and files.
Dynamic grounding, permission-aware data retrieval, zero data retention with third-party LLMs, data masking and toxicity detection.
Salesforce's low-code builder for defining jobs, instructions, actions and guardrails in natural language.
Generates and runs test scenarios at scale and scores the results, in a sandbox.
Is your business ready for Agentforce?
Check these seven things before you buy licenses or build an agent. Most failed AI projects stumble on the first one.
- Data qualityDuplicates merged, key fields filled in and values standardized on the objects your agent will touch.
- Salesforce editionSalesforce Foundations and Testing Center are listed for Enterprise Edition and higher; confirm which add-ons each agent type needs.
- Data 360 or data librariesDecide whether knowledge articles and files are enough, or whether you need Data 360 to unify data across systems.
- One clear use caseA repetitive, well-documented job with enough volume to matter, such as order status or inbound lead follow-up.
- GuardrailsSubagents that define what the agent will and will not do, least-privilege access, and clear handoff rules to people.
- TestingA sandbox, real sample questions, and Testing Center runs before anything reaches customers.
- Change managementAn owner for the agent, trained staff who know when it hands off, and a review cadence for answers and knowledge.
How we implement Agentforce
One use case at a time, tested before it reaches a customer. The phases are the same for every project; your plan sets the timing.
- DiscoverWe look at your Salesforce org, your data and where time goes, and pick one use case with a clear success measure.
- PrepareWe clean the data the use case depends on, tidy knowledge content, and set permissions and guardrails.
- BuildWe configure the agent in Agentforce Builder: subagents, instructions and actions built on your flows, Apex and APIs.
- TestWe run batch tests in Testing Center in a sandbox, fix weak spots and estimate usage before go-live.
- Launch & trainWe roll out to a limited audience first, train your team on handoffs and reviews, then widen.
- ImproveWe review conversations and scores, update knowledge and instructions, and add the next use case when the first one earns it.
When is Agentforce the wrong fit?
Agentforce is the wrong fit when your data is not in Salesforce, your data quality is poor with no one to fix it, or your volume is too low to repay the setup. We will tell you if that is the case. Other signs:
- Your customer and case data is not in Salesforce, and moving it is not on the table. A tool built for your current helpdesk may fit better.
- Your data has serious quality problems and nobody can own the clean-up yet. Fix the data first; an agent will repeat its mistakes.
- Volume is low. If a person answers a handful of requests a week, an agent may not repay the setup and usage cost.
- You only need a simple FAQ widget on your website, with no actions or CRM records involved.
- No one can own the agent after launch. Agents need someone to review answers and keep knowledge current.

Questions about Agentforce consulting
What does an Agentforce consultant do?
An Agentforce consultant helps you choose a first use case, prepares your Salesforce data and knowledge, builds the agent's subagents, instructions and actions, tests it in a sandbox and trains your team. We do this for small and mid-size businesses.
Is Consultants in a Box a Salesforce partner?
This page makes no Salesforce partner or certification claim. We are an independent consultancy. If formal partner status matters to your project, ask us in the free consultation.
Do we need Data Cloud (Data 360) to use Agentforce?
Not for every use case. Data libraries can ground an agent in knowledge articles or uploaded files; Data 360 helps when the agent needs unified data across systems. We check what your use case needs before you buy anything.
Which Salesforce edition do we need?
Salesforce lists Salesforce Foundations and Agentforce Testing Center for Enterprise Edition and higher, and required add-on licenses vary by agent type. We confirm what your org has before recommending anything.
How much does Agentforce cost?
Salesforce prices Agentforce with Flex Credits per action, per conversation, or per-user add-ons and editions. Our pricing guide explains the models and how to estimate usage; Salesforce's pricing page has current figures.
How long does an Agentforce implementation take?
It depends on the use case and the state of your data. Starting with one narrow use case is the fastest way to a working agent; your plan sets out the phases and timing.
Can you work on an existing Agentforce setup?
Yes. We can review an agent that is underperforming, test it in Testing Center, and fix instructions, actions or the data behind it.
How do we get started?
Start the free business analysis or book a call. We will ask how your team uses Salesforce today and suggest a practical first use case.
